Hat Hunt

My latest style obsession is oversized hats. Growing up I was never a big 'hat wearer' but lately they've become one of the easiest ways to accessorize. As Spring draws closer I will be keeping my eyes open for one of these beauties. Browns and blacks are my favorite. Would love to hear of any store suggestions where you might have seem something similar!

Winter Style

As many of you know, the South has recently been blasted with a winter storm. Living in Georgia my whole life I am used to mild winters but this year has been vastly different. The past few weeks have been full of below freezing temps and this week we even got a few inches of snow. So with all the extra time spent outside I've had to put more effort into staying warm & still making my outfits look good. Here are a few favorite ways that I've found to stay warm and look great when it's freezing out!

Flower Crown Tutorial

From day 1 of wedding planning I knew I was aiming for a simplistic look.  I wanted to steer away from many of the 'traditional' aspects of weddings.  Not out of rebellion but just because most of those type things don't appeal to me or seem to fit mine and Zac's personalities.

I've known for several years that a long white veil was not my style at all.  So for a while I thought I'd use some kind of birdcage veil that just covered a section of my face ( but I was still never crazy about that idea.)  So once we got engaged, the pressure was really on to figure out what I really loved and would feel very confident wearing on my wedding day.  After some debating on location for the wedding, we settled on the Virgin Islands and after spending a little time on Pinterest my answer was completely clear.  A FLOWER CROWN!  How I hadn't thought of that before I have no idea but once I saw it there was no doubt that would be my headpiece instead of a veil.

This was my very first attempt at making a flower crown an it isn't exactly what I want so instead of me wearing this one, I'm going to have my little sister wear it as the flower girl!

For supplies I used some dried baby's breath from a local craft store, some fake flowers of your choice and some craft wire.

It was a very simple process. I started by seperating the baby's breath and pulling the fake flowers off of their branches.  I simply layered the baby's breath to give it some texture and made a long line of it.  Once it was long enough to fit the diameter of my head I simply twisted it into a circle and connected the ends by twisting the wire tightly and covering it up with some branches of the baby's breath.  

It looked charming all on its own but since mine and Lydia's dresses are pretty simple I wanted to add a little pop of color so I added in a few of the flowers.  I did this the same way as before, by just placing the flowers where I wanted and using the wire to connect the base of them to the crown.

Lydia loves it and can't wait to sport it on the wedding day.  I'm currently planning out what my own crowns going to look like and can't wait to show the final product!

Overall it was a very simple project and getting to go look at all the flower options beforehand was super fun and inspiring.  I encourage everyone go out and make yourselves a crown to feel beautiful in! 

Summer Threads

In Atlanta the warm weather is finally here to stay! And along with the 80 degree temps comes the summer wardrobe that's been packed away all winter.  While I'll always be a sucker for scarves and mittens, summer style always takes the cake.  I've grown into a much simpler style over the last couple years; therefore, am in LOVE with the simplicity of dressing in the warmer months.  The hot sun brings along tan skin, crop tees, maxi skirts, cutoff shorts, and flowing dresses.  Who could ask for more, right?  Here's some of my favorite summer inspiration looks!

A World of White

Today was filled with white dresses!  Me, Mom, and Lyd took off around 10am in search for ‘the perfect dress.’ We didn’t get back home until around 10pm.. With no dress in hand. Not because we didn’t find any that I liked but because my biggest flaw is indecisiveness. I can never decide on ANYTHING. So when faced with hundreds of gorgeous dresses and told that you can only choose one, its’s a nightmare.

I think my problem is (at least when it comes to fashion) that I know exactly, down to the detail, what I want in my head.  I’m super picky but when I can’t find that in reality, I just wind up confused. So to solve my dilemma, I have scoured the internet looking for the perfect gown so I can simply order and get it over with. haha.  I decided to compile my top picks all in one place to compare and make the final judgement. Now some of these gowns are ones I’ve physically tried on but others are ones I’m contemplating ordering straight offline without ever seeing in person..

After weeks of searching I’ve gotten my head stuck in a rut by looking at these same few dresses over and over without making any forward progress toward a decision.. so that leads me to my request from you all.  I would love some outsider perspective on what you think of them!!  Keep in mind it will be on the beach!

Unclaimed Baggage

Yesterday was the perfect family day. Minus the fact Zac and Jesse couldn’t be there. But nonetheless, we took a mini road trip to Scottsboro, AL solely to SHOP! All 5 of us pilled in the car and drove all the way across state lines. After about 3.5 hours, we arrived at a store called Unclaimed Baggage.  We had no idea what to expect when we got there but thankfully we pulled up and the place was giant!

Basically, the concept of the store is that when baggage gets lost at the airport (i.e.. sent to the wrong place or no one claims it after a certain time period) this store buys it based on the weight. Then they sift through and price each individual item and resell it! So its like a thrift store for things that people never intended to give away.

Needless to say it was my kind of place!! They had tons of designer labels for really affordable prices plus tons of neat odds and ends.

I’m glad I was blessed with a spontaneous family who wants to accompany me on little trips like these!  And if you live anywhere in the surrounding Alabama area I definitely suggest you go check this place out!
